PB7 PlusBus

PlusBus is a discount price bus pass (like a Travelcard) for unlimited bus and tram travel around the whole urban area of the town that's at the start and/or end of a rail journey.

PlusBus is available about 300 towns & cities in Britain as a Day ticket or as a Season Ticket for fixed periods, as follows:

PBD - PlusBus Day [PLUSBUS DAY]

PB7 - 7 Day Season [PLUSBUS 7-DAY]

BMS - 1-month Season [BUS SEASN 1MTH]

BQS - 3-month Season [BUS SEASN 3MTH]

BAS - Annual Season [BUS ANNUAL SEAS]

Availability

PlusBus can be issued at all ticket offices and by some telesales.

A PlusBus ticket must not be issued if both the origin and destination stations of the rail journey are located wholly within the same towns' PlusBus travel zone or within the same metropolitan region (e.g. Greater Manchester; South Yorkshire; West Midlands; West Yorkshire).

PlusBus can be purchased in advance or on the day.

It is usually bought at the same time as a rail ticket but can be issued to a customer who already has a valid

PlusBus can be issued with all “advance”& “walk-up” train fares, as follows:

  • Single rail ticket = issue a PlusBus Day ticket for origin &/or destination town
  • Day Return rail ticket = issue a PlusBus Day ticket for origin &/or destination town
  • Period Return rail ticket = issue 2x PlusBus Day tickets for origin &/or destination town, one for the outward date and a second for the return date. If the return date is not known, you can only issue a PlusBus Day ticket for the customers outward journey.
  • Season Tickets = issue the relevant period PlusBus Season Ticket - 7-day, I month, 3 months or Annual.

Discounts

Children pay half the adult PlusBus Day ticket fare to the nearest 5p above.

Some destinations also offer child Season Tickets at half the adult fare. The standard child discount that applies to rail season tickets must not be applied to child rate PlusBus season tickets. Specific prices are loaded into the fares system for child rate PlusBus season tickets and these prices must be used. In some cases these prices will be the same as the adult season ticket price where there is no discount for child seasons.

National Railcard holders get one-third off adult PlusBus day ticket prices. Some Railcards have restrictions, please see individual entries below.

Minimum fare restrictions do not apply to the sale of discount price PlusBus day tickets (even if the minimum fare does apply to the rail ticket).

Network Railcard (& Gold Card) holders get one-third off the adult PlusBus day ticket price upon presentation of their valid Network Railcard:

  • after 10:00 Monday to Friday;
  • anytime on Saturday, Sunday & Public Holidays.

The £13 minimum fare restriction does not apply.

16-25 Railcard, Two Together & HM Forces Railcard holders get one-third off the adult PlusBus Day ticket price upon presentation of their valid Railcard at all times.

The £12 minimum fare restriction does not apply.

Senior Railcard holders get one-third off the adult PlusBus day ticket price upon presentation of their valid Senior Railcard:

  • at all times outside the South East of England;
  • after the morning peak* period Monday to Friday (excluding Public Holidays) for a journey wholly within the South East of England.

* times of off-peak services vary by route, but are normally related to the availability of Off-Peak tickets.

Family & Friends Railcard adult travellers get one-third off the adult PlusBus day ticket price upon presentation of their valid Family & Friends Railcard:

  • at any time for a journey outside the South East of England;
  • after the morning peak period* Monday to Friday (excludes Public Holidays) for a journey wholly within the South East of England.

* times of off-peak services vary by route, but are normally related to the availability of Off-Peak tickets.

Children travelling as part of a Friends & Family Group must be charged the normal child PlusBus fare for the destination (and not £1).

Disabled Persons Railcard holders get one-third off the adult PlusBus day ticket price upon presentation of their valid Disabled Persons Railcard available at all times, when purchased with the following ticket types:

  • Off-Peak Day Singles & Off-Peak Day Returns.
  • Anytime Singles & Anytime Returns.
  • Advance fares.

Disabled Persons Railcard discounts are valid during the morning peak hours.

There is no Railcard discount off the price of PlusBus season ticket prices.

No other type of Railcard gives a discount off PlusBus day ticket prices.

Holders of Staff Travel/Privilege Passes can buy PlusBus, but must not get a discount.

Refunds

National Rail refund conditions apply. Refunds are only available at the issuing ticket office.

Replacements for lost or stolen PlusBus Season Tickets (for a month or longer) can be issued, in accordance with the normal National Rail conditions.

Validity and reservation requirements

Reservations are not required by this ticket type, but may still be forced by a selected timetabled mandatory-reservations train service.
